Preschool About Us

Mission Statement

The mission of Coast Kids Preschool is to provide children in our community with the opportunities to grow physically, cognitively, socially/emotionally, and spiritually by offering a high-quality and developmentally appropriate program that is built upon a partnership between the child, teacher, and family.

Curriculum

“Jesus grew in stature and in wisdom and in favor with men and God.”  Luke 2:52.

Our curriculum reflects this Bible verse.  We desire for our preschool children to grow as Jesus did: physically, cognitively, socially/emotionally, and spiritually.  We use The Creative Curriculum as our blueprint for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program.  We also draw lessons from Wonder-filled Weekdays: Lessons for Christian Preschool Ministries.  Our curriculum covers the content areas that are included in the national and state standards - literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts.

Making Faith Connections

Faith connections are made throughout the day.  Looking at snails is not just a science lesson.  It is an opportunity to talk about God and His creations.  Children will enjoy coming together for Chapel Days.  Chapel is very interactive with lively songs and Bible Stories and lessons that come alive.  Parents are always welcome to join us.  Another way to make faith connections is to get involved in serving others. Each class will be involved in service projects during the year.

Play Is Important

Many parents ask if our program is play-based or academic. They want their children to enjoy preschool yet be prepared for kindergarten.  We do too!  The good news is that best preschool teaching practices make the most of children’s natural inclination to play.  What’s more, you don’t have to choose between academic learning and enjoyable play experiences.

Almost all research in early childhood clearly indicates that when children play, they learn, and they learn social, emotional, and physical skills as well as academic content and spiritual development.  We believe that a quality preschool program is one that promotes learning through rich play experience.

According to Susan Linn in her book, The Case for Make Believe: Saving Play in a Commercialized World: “The ability to play is central to our capacity to take risks, to experiment, to think critically, to act rather than react, to differentiate ourselves from our environment, and to make life meaningful.”

Call the preschool office for registration information.

Session 1: June 16 - 20 Alphabet Fun
The children will have fun with a variety of alphabet activities by focusing on a specific children’s book each day.  Each day will include five or six special letters of the day.  We won’t be able to cover the whole alphabet in one week.  We will put letters together to make words and learn their sounds.  “Sing a new song to the Lord.”  Psalm 98:1

Session 2: June 23 – June 27 All About Dogs
Woof! Woof! Dog’s are part of God’s creation.  There are so many different kinds, colors and sizes.  Dogs can be kept as pets and live in cities or they can work and live on a farm or in the wilderness.  God said, “Let the earth produce all kinds of animals.”  Genesis 1:24

Session 3: June 30 - July 3 Wheels
Tricycles, bicycles, cars, trucks, wagons, trains, skates, and scooters.  They all have wheels that are used for travel.  We will have a “take apart” station to have fun with taking apart and putting together things with wheels.  We will learn about other types of wheels that are not for travels.  God said, “Remember, I will be with you.”  Genesis 28:15

Session 4: July 7 - 11   From Super Heroes to Real-Life Heroes
By definition, superheroes are larger than life, courageous, powerful, and seemingly able to overcome any obstacle with their physical prowess while doing great deeds at the same time.  We will explore ways that even preschoolers can be heroes everyday.  “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”  Philippians 4:13

Session 5: July 14 - 18   Growing Little Helpers
Preschoolers love to help.  This week the children will be actively engaged in fun service projects for their families and community.  We hope that children will discover that serving is as fun as it is life changing.  “God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

Session 6: July 21 - 25   The Earth
As we learn about the earth, we will explore dirt, rocks, mud and earthworms.  We will discover that dirt is a gift and a vital part of life - not just something to wash off hands and floors.  We will learn ways we can take care of our the earth.  “God called the dry land earth.”  Genesis 1:10

Session 7: July 28 - August 1   Trash & Garbage
Trash and garbage are all around us.  They are in our homes, on the streets, and in places where we work and play.  Children are fascinated by trash and the garbage trucks.  We will see that some trash is actually recyclable and that someone’s trash is another’s treasure.  We will create using recyclables.  “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein”  Psalm 24:1

Session 8: August 4 - 8   Clothes
Children are interested in clothes from a young age.  By the time children are in preschool they develop distinct preferences for colors, fabrics and styles.  We may even design our own clothes for different events.   “And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.”  Matthew 6:28 - 29

Session 9: August 11 - 15   Jr. Architects
We will be learning about different buildings in our communities.  We will make plans and build with blocks and other materials, creating our community.  “People will build houses and get to live in them.”  Isaiah 65:21

Session 10: August 18, 19 & 20   I Have a Heart (full day only)
Children are fascinated with information about their bodies.  Most have been introduced to their heart in connection to emotions.  We want them to discover that God plans for the heart muscle to pump blood through each of their bodies.  “I am wonderfully made.”  Psalm 139:14

Special Events:
Bring a bathing suit and towel to every session. Please label!  We will have special water play days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (weather permitting) and special outdoor games on Thursdays and Fridays.  We will enjoy chapel together on Thursdays and Fridays during Sessions 1, 4, 5, 7 and 9.  We will have fun with jumpies Sessions 2 and 6.  Session 3 we will have a Transportation Parade and Session 8 we will have a Fashion Show.

Kindergarten Readiness:
