Director of High School Ministries - Daybreak Church - [posted 03/06/08)
Mission
The mission of Daybreak Church is to reach our community with the Gospel of Christ and to be a safe place for people to come and hear biblical and life changing truth. It is our desire to be culturally and relationally relevant to the generation that surrounds us with the application of the message of the Scriptures to peoples’ lives.
Carlsbad and Daybreak Church
Daybreak Church is a vibrant, growing and relatively young fellowship in coastal North San Diego County. The church facility is located in the heart of one of the fastest growing areas in the county with many young families in the immediate and surrounding neighborhoods. There is an elementary and middle school just a few blocks away. Carlsbad is an affluent beach community and the members of Daybreak reflect that culture.
Strategic Priorities
- In the summer of 2006, Daybreak called a new senior pastor to lead us into the next phase of church life and growth.
- Since that time, we have seen an influx of new families to the fellowship with many young children who are swelling our children’s classrooms.
- As there are not currently enough students to warrant calling a full-time pastor to this position, we are seeking a 12-15 hour Director to join our team and grow with us.
- It is our desire to create a “cradle to college” ministry continuum utilizing the gifts and abilities of several qualified and gifted individuals working together, under the senior leadership, to first accomplish and then maintain that goal with increasing momentum.
Reporting Relationships
The Director of 5th6th Grade Ministries will report directly to the Children’s Pastor.
Primary Function
- Lead a Christ centered, relational, life issued, high energy Sunday morning teaching and discipleship program for 5th6th grade students.
- Build a core team of parents and other adult leaders in establishing a highly credible, accountable and relational ministry to 5th-6th grade students.
- Attend staff meetings as prescribed and function as a member of the Daybreak Church staff.
Education Requirements
High School graduate; currently enrolled in college or pursuing a ministry degree program.
Experience
At least 1 year of youth ministry experience, preferably in same age group within a church or a parachurch organization.
Key Competencies/Attributes
- A heart for God and a sincere personal desire to grow in the knowledge of His word.
- The proven ability to dynamically teach the scriptures to young people and mentor them in Christ.
- The ability to build and lead a team of dedicated volunteers in order to increase relational and program effectiveness of the ministry.
- The desire and willingness to be a member of the church staff team and to grow relationally in ministry with and to them.
- The ability to humbly take direction and supervision from senior ministry staff.
Compensation and Commitment
This is an approximately 12-15 hour per week part-time position with the opportunity to grow as the size and demands of the ministry grow.
The position will be compensated $1,000-$1,300 per month depending on education and experience.
